Basically SAP business functions includes new development and innovations coming from SAP to simplify business processes. SAP introduces new business functions along with enhancement packages they are releasing. Some business function requires additional license when activating ( SAP note ). Some business functions have dependency on other business functions.
Below applications are taken in to account when releasing new enhancement packages.
Most of business functions are client independent and not required to activate on client 000. If you activate business functions in client 000 then you'll have to copy additional settings and IMG activities in to your working client.
When activating business function it won't create a transport but once you activated all required business functions then you can transport all together to the required system (System settings--> Transport).It is not possible to transport only set of activated business functions.

Once activation starts a background jobs triggers and you can monitor the job/job log in TCode SM37 .

- SAP CRM (Customer Relationship Management)
- SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
- SAP SCM (Supply Chain Management)
- SAP SRM (Supplier Relationship Management)
Business functions are bounds to technical components versions(Eg:-SAP_BASIS , SAP_ABA , SAP_APPL ) of SAP application server. Most of business functions are not possible to deactivate once activated. Deactivation of active business functions only possible for test purposes.Base on below chart you can find more information on status of business function .
How to activate
Prerequisites :-
- User ID with SAP_ALL access
- Disable all batch jobs (including scheduled background jobs)
- Lock and log out all users from system (except DDIC,SAP*,TMSADM)
